GVSS

The Gentle Vision Shaping System, or GVSS, also called Ortho-K or CRT, corrects your vision while you sleep so you don’t have to wear glasses or contacts during the day. The contact lens gently reshapes your cornea overnight to correct nearsightedness and low amounts of astigmatism. It is non-invasive and non-surgical. If you get up in the middle of the night, you will be able to see clearly with your lenses on. All ages can benefit from GVSS — especially children and teens whose contacts or glasses interfere with schoolwork, sports, dance, and other extracurricular activities. In addition, GVSS has been proven in studies to slow the progression of nearsightedness.

What Happens During GVSS?

If we feel you are a good candidate for GVSS, you will be given a thorough eye exam and your custom pair of CRT contact lenses will be ordered. When you return to our practice to pick up the lenses, you will be instructed on how to properly apply and remove them, and how to clean and care for them.

When you put your lens in for the first time, you may be aware of the lens in your eye when you blink. This is normal and the sensation can be relieved by relaxing and closing your eyes (as you go to sleep). As you adapt to the lens over a week or so, this sensation will go away.

We normally see you the first day after you wear your lens overnight to check your vision. If you are not seeing clearly or the lens isn’t fitting correctly, we will try a new lens. For most patients, this fine-tuning of the process takes 7 days. After these first few days, you will notice your vision staying clear for longer periods throughout each day.

Once you reach the end of your treatment period and are enjoying clear vision throughout all of your waking hours without the need to wear contact lenses or glasses during the day, simply continue sleeping in your lenses each night to maintain your vision. By doing so, you can expect great vision every single day. If you have questions about GVSS or any contact lens, please email us!
